for Apple Vision Pro

the era of spatial food computing

“Spatial Pizza” is an interactive Apple Vision Pro experience by Phil Traut and Brian McIntosh that explores the possibilities of a pizza simulator in the era of Spatial Computing.

the future of food
ordering

Imagine you’re in a distant future, you’re hungry, and once again, you’re too lazy to cook. Instead of opening a website and ordering pizza the old-fashioned way with boring drop-down menus and checkboxes, you get to playfully create your pizza right on your living room table. Once you’re done, you just hit “Order,” and your creation is delivered to your doorstep.

We believe the future will be much more visual because it’s far more engaging for our brains, using both hemispheres to process information in a more intuitive way. Everything will feel more interactive, more gamified—even pizza ordering will happen right in front of you. With our first App for the Apple Vision Pro we explored what this future might look like, how it could work, and ate a lot of pizza during this educational and experimental phase. 🍕

Made with Swift UI and Reality Composer Pro.

We love Apple’s spatial computing approach with visionOS and were excited to explore all the tools and possibilities available to developers today. That’s why we wanted the app to be as native as possible. We scanned the base of the baked pizza using Object Capture, created the various pizza scenes with Reality Converter and Reality Composer Pro, and developed the app entirely natively using SwiftUI in Xcode.

For the user interface, we aimed to rely almost entirely on Apple’s Component Library and system fonts, ensuring a seamless and familiar experience.
